Hey there! My name is Ben Blatt. I’m an author, statistician, and hobbyist woodworker. I currently write for The Upshot at The New York Times.
I am the author of Nabokov’s Favorite Word Is Mauve, which explores what data can teach us about literary classics and popular fiction. I am also the co-author of I Don’t Care If We Never Get Back which chronicles my attempt to visit all 30 major league ballparks in 30 days.
I previously wrote for Slate where I covered topics ranging exploring the hidden patterns of Where’s Waldo? to finding the hardest shot to make in bowling. I studied at Harvard College where I earned a degree in applied mathematics and wrote for The Harvard Lampoon.
In between writing stints I worked for several years as a consultant for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
I am a fan of woodworking and whimsy. You can click on the “Games” tab to view my mechanical arcade creations.
You can contact me at ben.blatt@nytimes.com. I do my best to respond to all e-mails.
